Updated Info on Health Care Forum

Due to several requests for a counterpoint to Gabrielle Gifford's recent Health Care Reform forum, The Tucson Tea Party will be holding a Town Hall type meeting on Monday June 22 at 6:00 pm.

Panelists currently include:

Dr. Steven D. Knope M.D. is a board-certified internist and sports medicine expert. He completed his premedical studies at Columbia University and graduated with honors in internal medicine from Cornell University Medical College in 1988. He completed his residency training at UCLA, where he was awarded the first Sherman Melinkoff Teacher of the Year Award. He has served as Chief of Medicine, Chairman of the Department of Medicine, and Director of the ICU in the Carondelet system in Tucson, Arizona. He is a pioneer in the field of concierge medicine, opening one of the first concierge practices in America in December 2000. He authored the first book on concierge medicine entitled, Concierge Medicine; A New System to Get the Best Healthcare (Praeger, 2008).


Dr. Jane M. Orient, M.D. is a Clinical Lecturer in Medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, and Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine. As well, she edits the Doctors for Disaster Preparedness Newsletter and Civil Defense Perspectives. In addition, she is the editor of AAPS News, the official newsletter of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons for which she serves as Executive Director. Her articles frequently appear in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Bennet E. Davis, M.D. is President of the Pima County Medical Society and board-certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine. He received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, trained in Orthopedic Surgery and Anesthesiology and practiced pain medicine at the University of California-Irvine. He is the former medical director of The University of Arizona Pain Management Center, and was an Associate Professor of clinical anesthesiology at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Dr. Davis is a member of the Arizona Cancer Center. He has special interests in pain associated with spinal conditions RSD and nerve injury.

Dr. Byron Schlomach is an economist and works as the Director of the Center for Economic Prosperity at the Goldwater Institute. He has 15 years of experience working in and around state government. He has researched and written on tax and spending policy in two states in addition to studying transportation, health care, and education policy. Byron’s writings have appeared in National Review Online, Business Week Online and numerous Texas and Arizona newspapers. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University.

Each guest will give an introduction of their topic followed by an hour of questions and answers with the panelists.

  1. This is sooo important for all of us to keep informed about this. If Obama has his way on Nationalized Healthcare - we will all be in trouble and it will not be able to be reversed!
